Author Interview: Alexander McCall Smith (Author of “The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency”) at #JLF2019

There are authors who are synonymous with their work. If you tell me Poirot, I’d relate it to Christie immediately, and Scout with Lee and To Kill a Mockingbird. Another such pairing is The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency with Alexander McCall Smith. Even if you have read just one of the books, the relation stays in your mind forever. When DDS and I had headed to Jaipur Literature Festival 2019, we hadn’t a clue we’d get a chance to meet with and interact with the famed author.

Author Interview: Markus Zusak (Author of “The Book Thief”) at #JLF2019

There are many books I have been recommended as must reads by many readers and friends. Some are recommended very vociferously and repeatedly too. One such book was The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Many friends wanted to know why a bibliophile like me hadn’t read it yet, and they kept suggesting me to purchase and read that during every sale that came. Eventually, I did. And I think that was one of the good decisions I made when it comes to book purchases. It made a mark that has yet to be forgotten. A book that lived up to its billing. A book whose cover remains one of my favorite cover art till date.

Author Interview: Kishwar Desai (Author of “Witness the Night”) at #JLF2019

There are few books I’ve discovered at my favorite bookstore. Some via other reviews. One book I can attribute to the former (I think) is one titled Witness the Night by Kishwar Desai. The eerie cover did catch my eye and the blurb kind of added to the curiosity.

After reading it, I knew I had to recommend the book to a few of my bibliophile buddies, including of course, my bookish twin DDS. No surprise, she loved it too. When we saw her name among the list of speakers at the Jaipur Literature Festival, we requested a chance to speak with her in person, and thankfully we got it.

Author Interview: Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni (Author of “The Palace of Illusions”) at #JLF2019

The first book I ever read of Chitra Divakaruni Banerjee was The Mistress of Spices, much before it was made into a movie. I came across it at the local library and the title had intrigued me immediately. If The Mistress of Spices started my journey into her works, the one that captivated me was The Palace of Illusions, her take on The Mahabharata and of course, in it, the character of Draupadi.

Author Interview: Reshma Qureshi (Author of “Being Reshma”) at #JLF2019

I had heard of Reshma Qureshi and her book Being Reshma in the month preceding the Jaipur Literature Festival 2019. A few friends had posted about the book, and on searching further, had seen some updates about the woman behind the book as well. It was DDS who wanted to meet Reshma when we came to know she would be at JLF2019. To be honest, I didn’t know what we would ask her. But when we got the chance to talk with her, it was a different experience.
