Good books happen in three, or so seems the trend these days. Authors tend to veer toward trilogies, some even go past it and make seven or eight in a series, which is well and good. After all, who knows how big a story the muse holds and wants to convey. For a trilogy to work, the first book has to be spot on, so it pushes the interest of the reader into the second book. Saranya Umakanthan brings the first part of The Comeback Warrior trilogy titled ‘The Divine Command’.
“When Our Worlds Collide”… the title, plus the cover design would usually lead me to think that this is one of those romance novels that go the expected route. But the book, without a doubt, surprised me. “We will assure you by the end of this very different tale that it’s not always about the happy ending.” That was what the preface said, but the happily ever after does happen for the characters, just not in the way I expected after reading the title or looking at the cover.
The genre of love/romance fiction is the most popular in India, I feel. The number of books that come out each year from Indian authors in the genre are proof of that. Another one to join that number recently is an anthology of love stories, the second of its series, Uff Ye Emotions 2. The book brings out 11 stories, one from a popular Indian author, who is the editor of the book, and the remaining ten from new authors selected from entries received as part of a contest.
